Customised E-mail Address

Have you ever applied for a job or contacted your boss, maybe even a potential client or customer, using a very personal e-mail address that includes dubious words?

I know I did when I left school and here are some examples I've come across over the years:

It's understandable that most people don't have access to a custom e-mail address, one that looks professional and gives the right impression. However that doesn't mean that it can be totally forgiven especially when you might be competing for a job against people who go that bit further and sign-up for a custom Professional E-mail Address. You need to give the best impression possible. Sending an e-mail or writing it on a job application form has a bigger effect than you think. Using works like "sexy" will have a negative effect where using words like "contact" or "info" has a positive effect. Here are some examples of the type of e-mail address that gives a positive impression, the second part of each one is called the "domain" i.e. example@domain.com.

Your Own Name Domain

These examples are great for personal use and business, just generally handy for everything. However the domain may not be available depending on how popular your full name is. It is also recommended to secure a version with and without the hyphen between names for extra security.

Trade or Business Approach

If your in a specific trade and your all about your work then this might suit you more. You will also be securing the web domain you'll need to host a web site on later when your ready to go live on the internet with your business. This is highly recommended for students. Secure your domain now, begin using your e-mail address and get one of the most important tasks out of the way early. You may lose the opportunity to get your business name in your e-mail address by delaying as someone else may buy it from anywhere around the world.

With Sub-Domains

The domains in these e-mail address are similar to those above but include what is called a "sub-domain". It is a single word extension to the original domain which is still required before actually being able to set-up a sub-domain e-mail address. These can be good for people working across the world or who occasionally move departments within a global organisation. You can also use them to simply point out where you are located, your name and business name all in one e-mail address.
