I should say, that I realise there is a lack of banners. What I’m hoping to do is get some more products and services well defined then simply spend a few days creating some marketing media. So it will come. Also my customer service plugin, will provide opportunity for affiliates to act as sales representatives. This is a unique idea, I think. Where if an affiliate has enquiries, you will be notified. This will work in the same way sales do but instead, their tickets will be marked with indication that they are your affiliate and when they create a ticket for a product or service that you advertised to them then that connection will be made with yourself.

On A Personal Note For The Future…

I obviously have a lot to do, it won’t happen over night either but you should know that keeping an eye on WebTechGlobal and keeping my site bookmarked will pay-off for you one day. So I thought I would check on the success of the affiliate campaign overall and it looks good. Even 25% commission on these sale to click ratios is very good. My affiliates will be able to check their own traffic sent to my site and I’m sure they their statistics will not differ.

Affiliate Statistics

• There is an average of 1 sale per 25 visitors for Easy CSV Importer
• No other products are sold at this time but will be in the near future
• There are currently 10 affiliates but only around 5 appear to be sending traffic

Cookie Period

As an affiliate of other websites, I always find it unfair when a cookie only lasts 30 days. Many people will bookmark a product and return later. I myself being a developer will bookmark something I discover, knowing it will help me for a specific project already planned. It could be 3-4 months after the time I bookmark the sales page.

I offer 365 days to increase the chances of repeat commission, maybe even on products or services that never existed when the affiliate originally got the click through!

I’ve thought about this for weeks now and as more affiliate sales come in I feel I have no choice but to lower the commission. Currently my top selling product is Easy CSV Importer and it requires massive amounts of support. The 50% I get myself covers costs, my time developing the plugin further, trying to improve it for individuals who buy it and just general support. £25 per sale at my end is simply not enough.

Just to be clear. If I get 6 sales in a week from Easy CSV Importer, I earn £150. After doing this for 2 years, I can tell you that 3-4 of those customers will require not only tutorial support but often what I would rather call consultancy. I spend 2-3 hours a day answering general WordPress questions such as what custom fields are and how to use them etc. This is before customers even get starting with the import stage.

I’m creating a new CSV importer which will be sold for £100, not lower. That is my final decision so the commission made on that will be higher and I predict it to sell at the same rate as Easy CSV Importer. That plugin will be the ultimate CSV importer for WordPress and I will be providing better solutions for affiliates promoting it. Please be patient while it is created. I hope you understand my decision.

To sweeten this change in commission, I’m giving the new CSV importer plugin to every affiliate who gets 2 sales, for free. The new CSV importer for WordPress will be released in 2012.

This is one of those stores that will appeal to an older, home owning, audience. Howeverwide range of products that BHS offers would allow affiliates to make use of this advertiser in places where they can target specific audiences. Thorntons

This is a good one to get on board because it can appeal to a wide age group and chocolates can be a gift for any occasion, or no occasion! Keep in mind however that buying chocolates online is a luxery so you might want to consider if your audience is a wealthy one. Ann-Summers

Do I even need to talk about target audience for this one?! One thing to keep in mind is the audience not to display this banner to. Ann Summers is a brand that you can make a lot of commission from if you advertise their products in the right way, the right time and the perfect context. BBC

I would need to admit that I have never shopped at the BBC but should anyone actually wonder; you don’t actually need to be a customer to be an affiliate! The BBC is simply worth considering because of there well known and trusted name. BBC can be signed up on Commission Junction.

Homebase

I shop at homebase but I don’t think I have a website that uses their affiliated products. Any home, garden and DIY content would be a suitable place for Homebase ads if you want to help people “Make a house a home”. Homebase can be signed up on Commission Junction.

Comet (accessories)

Accessories can often be hard to find for a specific product. I personally think this sort of product and ad is perfect for forums where people return often and stay for long periods of time. Currys

A good all rounder providing all types of electrical goods and one of the most trusted brands. I’ve actually worked for Currys myself and I know that their service online will generate sales for you. Burton

I bought my first shirts from Burton when I started working in a call centre, the job after Currys! I know that Burton provide good quality clothes but offering up their shirts and suits specifically is a good idea. Get these ads on websites where men in their late teens and early twenties work to maximise sales as your punters are just starting to work. Boots

I always shopped at Boots occasionally and then I became a father. When I had to change my daughters nappy while on the move for the first time I was impressed at what the smallest of Boots store offer for baby changing rooms. They also provide a lot of specalists within their stores and this is the reason it appeals to mothers who want to take good care of their family. I must admit I’m not too impressed with their ad, their only shop in my town closed years ago and they are part of the DSG (Dixons Store Group). This includes Currys, PC World and the Link I think. I would personally use Currys or PC World because I don’t feel the Dixons brand is as strong. Dixons can be signed up on Affiliate Window.

Focus

Diy and gardening is for a very specific audience. People in their late twenties and upwards. Parenting forums and sites for topics that adults are deeply involved in like mortgages, shares, holidays, insurance etc. I would not put these ads on gaming, technology, service and sites offering heavy amounts of information. PC World

Well this ones easy, computers! Remember however that these guys also offer PC repair services and have good payment plans for spreading the cost. Those services might appeal to certain people and also keep in mind the commission level on laptops or the latest PC’s! A single sale may get you the same commission as 10 sales as a Boots affiliate! Pets At Home

I’m asking myself where animal lovers hang out! However this one might be good on young teenagers websites if they have any banners showing cute fluffy bunnys and hamsters! Phones4U

This is fun, my first contract mobile was from Phones4U. Nokia 8310 and the deal I got was good. Another great brand for targetting just about everyone but if you can specifically target people with a lot of money and get commission on contracts rather than Pay As You Go then you will make more money. Superdrug

I see Superdrug as a cheaper alternative to Boots so you might want to target an audience on a budget, I would. I can’t say much more because I never shop at Superdrug as it’s never appealed to me. Superdrug can be signed up to on Affiliate Window.

So far I’ve never heard of anyone talking about BT as a source of a Fathers Day gift like this ad shows. To me they provide broadband and a phoneline but ofcourse they offer important business services so you may want to really narrow down your audience with this one but it’s worth know because BT is the household brand. Dorothy Perkins

This brand is part of the same store group as Burtons and are the female alternative to Burtons. All I can say in that case is to place their ads on pages for the female half of the race. Dorothy Perkins can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

GAME

A very wide target audience and children may not have credit cards but they will persist! This is another one for forums where people relax and get in the mood to do somethign distracting and fun. GAME can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

Halfords

On this list I don’t think there is another brand that cover the area of vehicles and bikes. Perfect for a car forum and don’t forget their baby seats or children bikes. Halfords can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

HMV
