ECI: Manage Data Sources

May 31st, 2011 // In: Easy CSV Importer // By: Comments 0

This is where you upload CSV files and manage paths to their locations if you upload CSV files using FTP. The features in the Manage Data Sources area are not as advanced as they may sound. The name I’ve giving it is partly for the things still to come. Right now however there is enough for most users.

Key Information

  • CSV stands for Comma Separated Value and must end in .csv
  • When possible enclose all data values in double quotes, it can’t do any harm and usually avoids the most common problems blamed on the plugin
  • Your maximum upload limit is controlled by your WordPress installation and your server. Easy CSV Importer does not apply the limit.
  • Any size of CSV file can be used with Easy CSV Importer, but your server may restrict how long a large file can be processed for. In that case you will want to use ECI to import data in multiple tasks/events and then also do post creation in multiple events.
  • Open your CSV file in Excel, if it is not displayed like any other spreadsheet then the CSV file is not formatted properly.

Features

If you need a new feature or would like one adapted to suit your needs please comment below.

CSV Uploader

A standard uploader but also has a menu to select what directory you want the CSV file to be put in. There are defaults, one allows you to put CSV files into the plugins own folder. That is named “PluginFolder” but has the disadvantage of erasing your CSV files if your using the free edition and upgrade automatically. Users of full edition may also delete an old version to replace with a new version, forgetting their CSV File is stored there. The alternative is “WPContent” which puts the CSV files into a folder named ecifiles, you will find it in your wp-content directory.

Add Or Create New CSV File Directory

You can create new folders on your server or add the paths to existing ones using this tool. Any CSV files stored in those folders will then be displayed on the interface for creating projects with. This tool is ideal if you have CSV files stored on your server before using Easy CSV Importer, especially if the files are in use by other software.

Remove or Delete CSV File Directory

Simple enough I think, it will remove the paths saved using the tool described above. It canl delete your CSV files also but that is optional, you can simply remove the saved path from the Easy CSV Importer data arrays meaning it will no longer be used by ECI but still exists on your server.
