Star Trek Online Vista Speech Recognition

WebTechGlobal reviewed the new STO MMO and found that it was highly enjoyable using speed recognition however due to the constant changes in abilities, powers etc. It is hard to keep the speech recognition configured to suit your current character configuration without constantly making new macros. We did have a detailed tutorial here on how to do this but after developing a new website it was erased.

Please comment below if you would like information on how to get speech recognition working for Star Trek Online. If anyone needs it I can provide the Macros for downloading which will work fine on your computer once authorised.

For those of you who are still not sure what speech recognition is or what it means for a game like Star Trek Online. Speech recognition is the ability to talk into a microphone and get a response from your computer. You can do it with any application, on your desktop, on the web or even a game. In a game like Star Trek Online where the action is intense ( mostly in raids or pvp ), you will need to be as fast as possible. When you need more power to shields a 1 second daily can make a different, when you need to “Brace For Impact” because three quantum torpedo are flying towards you, triggering the ability too late is just no good. Speech recognition allows you to setup commands and say them as if you were on the bridge of a star ship.

You can say things like “Torpedo” to fire your torpedo, maybe make it “Aft Torpedo” if you have them for firing forwards and to the rear. How about saying “Forward Shields”,”Left Shields”,”Balance Shields” to increase shield strength in the way you need. I think my favourite when testing this was simply “Fire”. Yes it can be that simple, actually it gets easier. These voice commands are perfect for the abilities that never change position in your skill tray. I found it easier to say numbers to trigger the powers in the skill tray and simply get used to which ability is on which number. That way when you change bridge officers, change your kit (ground combat) or are rewarded with new skills, you don’t need to bring up your speech recognition macro again then configure something new.
