We reviewed Star Trek Online on day one of the BETA and have played occasionally since, often lending out account to others so they can play for the first time. I can tell you that now is a great time to join an expanding universe, fly a varied list of ships, equip an endless choice of weapons and engage in battles that reall turn the heat up on you.

10 Reasons To Play Star Trek Online (STO)

  1. Personalise and configure your own space ship. You can fly it in battle or enter the ship itself, for meetings with your team lets say. Upgrade to newer and better ships throughout your starfleet career.
  2. Create and train an entire team of professional officers. Promote them, equip them with weapons or armour and use them in massive space battles or on the ground during away missions.
  3. If your into the Star Trek series (you don’t have to be many players arent) then you might enjoy diplomatic missions and ranking in the diplomatic core. You can then enjoy perks of the job that others won’t have access to. Do you think you can impress the vulcans enough to earn respect as a diplomat?
  4. Endless rewards, points, badges, emblems and marks to be collected as currency. Each type of currency comes from a different source and is spent on different things. It makes the game interesting, competitive and you can choose to focus on a specific area of play. For example you will get emblems in diplomatic missions only and some players will go down that path where some will collect hundreds.
  5. Re-create those special moments from the Star Trek series series such as approaching DS9 for the first time, winning dabo or flying a run-about/shuttle craft. Maybe an exciting moment will be de-cloaking for the first time just as your about to unleash hell on the enemy.
  6. Player versions player system provides arenas of action packed mayhem. If you like a challenge you’ll love playing 10 versus 10 in battles where the side with the best team work wins. Use every skill you have to not only keep yourself alive but help your team avoid destruction.
  7. Fleet system, community interface and friends management is all there to make it that much more enjoyable. Some fleets have hundreds of members. They share weapons and consoles in the fleet bank so if your new contact a fleet for some support.
  8. New content coming all the time, patches every week which improve the game and new playing systems being added.  Weekly episode missions are coming soon, there is just alway something to do.
  9. Fight all the popular races including Romulans, Cardassians, Klingons and the Borg.
  10. Choose to join the Klingon Defense Force or the Federation (Starfleet), play with a fully customised character, even play as a liberated borg.
