ECI: Data Import

Jul 16th, 2010 // In: Easy CSV Importer, Help // By: Comments 0

The data import panel is the first step on the Configuration page for any project. Many interface features rely on knowing much data you have. In most cases the derived number is taking from the database table, actual records available for use, rather than what is in your CSV file. It is recommend that you import all of your data before continuing a project.

Key Information
  • It is recommended that you use a blog installed on your computer to handle data import. However this is an advanced approach until more tools can be provided. A system called Blog 2 Blog has been planned fr a long time and will allow 1 million records to be imported to the database in the time it takes you to make a hot drink. I plan to begin working on the Blog 2 Blog system again soon. It will probably comprise of various individual tools.
  • Once your data has been imported, it is available for any other plugin to interact with or you can export it in SQL format for importing to another blog.
  • After completing the import stage, do not attempt to do it again unless you have deleted the table already created. You do not need to go through the process twice even if you delete your projects post using the tools page.
  • If you use another script to edit your data in the database, ensure that the “eciupdate” column gets a new date value entered. This will trigger the post for that record to be updated providing you have the update functions activated.

Features

Data Import Encoding

You can apply encoding to your data before it is imported to your project database. This is not required at all times and is considered an advanced feature. A different encoding or no encoding can be applied to data just before it is used to create posts. Those settings do not apply to import encoding. Click here to read more about import encoding.

Overall Effects

Data is imported to a new database table. The database table has the same name as your CSV file. The data is laid out in that table in the same way as it would appear when opening your file in Excel. The same columns and each record on one line. This is how Easy CSV Importer easily uses the data based on what it finds out from your CSV file.

Troubleshooting

Problem: 0 Records Success

Did you edit your projects speed profile on another page while import data using the manual method? By making a change to the import value for your speed profile, it can trigger zero records to be imported. It will be investigated eventually but is very low priority due to the circumstances it occurs.
