Those of you new to being an affiliate and in the UK or promoting to the UK should hopefully find this short guide useful. The idea is to help you quickly signup to the biggest brands and the affiliate network they use to promote products. I’ll drop of some tips along the way and try to help clear some questions up as we go along.

Swarovski

I personally buy from Swarovski, not usually for myself mind you but they do offer a wide range of prices on items that are not only popular but suit any occasion. These positives make Swarovski an ideal choice for a gift, jewellery or a generally mixed e-commerce website. Swarovski can be signed up on Commission Junction.
Swarovski - The Magic of Crystal

BHS

This is one of those stores that will appeal to an older, home owning, audience. Howeverwide range of products that BHS offers would allow affiliates to make use of this advertiser in places where they can target specific audiences. Such as their baby clothes range appealing to mothers for example. BHS can be signed up on Commission Junction.

20% off sale

Thorntons

This is a good one to get on board because it can appeal to a wide age group and chocolates can be a gift for any occasion, or no occasion! Keep in mind however that buying chocolates online is a luxery so you might want to consider if your audience is a wealthy one. Put their banners on a childrens website and you will just make them drool! Thorntons can be signed up on Commission Junction.

Ann-Summers

Do I even need to talk about target audience for this one?! One thing to keep in mind is the audience not to display this banner to. Ann Summers is a brand that you can make a lot of commission from if you advertise their products in the right way, the right time and the perfect context. Ann Summers can be signed up on Commission Junction.

BBC

I would need to admit that I have never shopped at the BBC but should anyone actually wonder; you don’t actually need to be a customer to be an affiliate! The BBC is simply worth considering because of there well known and trusted name. BBC can be signed up on Commission Junction.
Jonathan Creek

Homebase

I shop at homebase but I don’t think I have a website that uses their affiliated products. Any home, garden and DIY content would be a suitable place for Homebase ads if you want to help people “Make a house a home”. Homebase can be signed up on Commission Junction.

Homebase

Comet (accessories)

Accessories can often be hard to find for a specific product. I personally think this sort of product and ad is perfect for forums where people return often and stay for long periods of time. It may help to trigger peoples mind that they need an accessories. Comet Accessories can be signed up on Commission Junction.

Currys

A good all rounder providing all types of electrical goods and one of the most trusted brands. I’ve actually worked for Currys myself and I know that their service online will generate sales for you. They pay their sales team good commission so I just hope they do the same for their affiliates. Currys can be signed up on Affiliate Window.

Burton

I bought my first shirts from Burton when I started working in a call centre, the job after Currys! I know that Burton provide good quality clothes but offering up their shirts and suits specifically is a good idea. Get these ads on websites where men in their late teens and early twenties work to maximise sales as your punters are just starting to work. Burton can be signed up on Affiliate Window and Trade Doubler.

Boots

I always shopped at Boots occasionally and then I became a father. When I had to change my daughters nappy while on the move for the first time I was impressed at what the smallest of Boots store offer for baby changing rooms. They also provide a lot of specalists within their stores and this is the reason it appeals to mothers who want to take good care of their family. Get their ads on female orianted forums to maximum commission. Boots can be signed up on Affiliate Window.

Dixons

I must admit I’m not too impressed with their ad, their only shop in my town closed years ago and they are part of the DSG (Dixons Store Group). This includes Currys, PC World and the Link I think. I would personally use Currys or PC World because I don’t feel the Dixons brand is as strong. Dixons can be signed up on Affiliate Window.

Focus

Diy and gardening is for a very specific audience. People in their late twenties and upwards. Parenting forums and sites for topics that adults are deeply involved in like mortgages, shares, holidays, insurance etc. I would not put these ads on gaming, technology, service and sites offering heavy amounts of information. Focus can be signed up on Affiliate Window.

PC World

Well this ones easy, computers! Remember however that these guys also offer PC repair services and have good payment plans for spreading the cost. Those services might appeal to certain people and also keep in mind the commission level on laptops or the latest PC’s! A single sale may get you the same commission as 10 sales as a Boots affiliate! PC World can be signed up to on Affiliate Window.

Pets At Home

I’m asking myself where animal lovers hang out! However this one might be good on young teenagers websites if they have any banners showing cute fluffy bunnys and hamsters! The great thing about this type of brand is the reoccuring sales and the target audience is everyone really. Pets At Home can be signed up to on Affiliate Window.

Phones4U

This is fun, my first contract mobile was from Phones4U. Nokia 8310 and the deal I got was good. Another great brand for targetting just about everyone but if you can specifically target people with a lot of money and get commission on contracts rather than Pay As You Go then you will make more money. Phones4U can be signed up to on Affiliate Window.

Superdrug

I see Superdrug as a cheaper alternative to Boots so you might want to target an audience on a budget, I would. I can’t say much more because I never shop at Superdrug as it’s never appealed to me. Superdrug can be signed up to on Affiliate Window.

Avon

A female orianted service and brand for sure however where men are looking to buy gifts for their partners, this is a good one to offer up. Avon have some unique products advertised very well, you will get sales if you do the same. Avon can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

BT

So far I’ve never heard of anyone talking about BT as a source of a Fathers Day gift like this ad shows. To me they provide broadband and a phoneline but ofcourse they offer important business services so you may want to really narrow down your audience with this one but it’s worth know because BT is the household brand. BT can be signed up to on Trade Doubler

Dorothy Perkins

This brand is part of the same store group as Burtons and are the female alternative to Burtons. All I can say in that case is to place their ads on pages for the female half of the race. Dorothy Perkins can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

GAME

A very wide target audience and children may not have credit cards but they will persist! This is another one for forums where people relax and get in the mood to do somethign distracting and fun. GAME can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

Halfords

On this list I don’t think there is another brand that cover the area of vehicles and bikes. Perfect for a car forum and don’t forget their baby seats or children bikes. Halfords can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

HMV

Music and game consoles are the main products for HMV. If they offer music downloads then go for it but I’m not too sure about this one. I want to buy an iPhone I seen in the HMV store for a good price, so many there are some deals worth advertising. HMV can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

La Senza

Almost a luxery brand with PJ’s and ladies underwear being more expensive then the average price on the average high street. La Senza is a shop most women will want to buy from once they see what is on offer so display their products well. La Senza can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

Tesco

Who does not shop at Tesco? Their online service is also great but it’s such a new concept. If you can convince people with a busy life that this is their grocery solution then your in for good commission. Tesco can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

The Body Shop

Not impressed by their ads, their logo is too small and the one showing right now has a yellow background so you can’t even see the white logo. That aside their products are good luxery items to offer up to bored girls especially near Christmas. The Body Shop can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.

Ryman

They need to change their name to Rymans because no one every actually says Ryman! Ad placements will be best served on the same websites someone would visit when in the office whatever they all may be. Ryman (s) can be signed up to on Trade Doubler.
